Rose City Rollers: Roller Derby
If you have never attended a roller derby match before, let us be the first to tell you about the Rose City Rollers. This all female roller derby league, which has been around since 2004 and shows no signs of slowing. With a league containing over 400 players and many teams, you are guaranteed to be entertained for hours. Be sure to get here early though as these ladies know how to pack a crowd selling out almost every bout for the last few years.
If you visited the Portland Meadows prior to 2012, you may remember horse racing as a winter activity; since then, it now welcomes a long (and in our opinion) more enjoyable summer season. With no cost to enter, Portland Meadows can provide you with hours of free entertainment while basking in the Portland sunshine.
Places to Eat
Portland is home to the world famous Voodoo Doughnut shops, which offer the most unique and delicious doughnuts the world has ever seen. From the classic Portland Cream Doughnut to the out of this world Bacon Maple Bar, Voodoo is the only place where all of your doughnut dreams come true. We highly encourage stopping by this magical place for both the food and the opportunity to make those back home very, very jealous. When you visit, keep in mind that Voodoo is cash-only.
Le Pigeon is one of Portland's most talked about restaurants. Featuring a fresh new take on French cuisine, they offer menu items such as Duck Confit with miso, snap peas, shiitakes, and strawberry-turnip chutney. Feel free to sit at the communal table if you can and get to know fellow travelers and locals for the full experience. Reservations are recommended as only 10 seats are reserved for those that walk-in.
Warning! Upon passing through the entryway of Slowburger be aware of extreme mouth watering and tears of joy! With more burger options than we could ever list, (however we do recommend trying the "Big Mike"), this is the one stop shop for anyone looking for a mouthwatering meal bound to leave their stomach full and their face with a smile. If you fancy yourself as a herbivore, do not worry, Slowburger offers a fantastic veggie burger as well!
